So as the title implies, I kinda ruined Christmas. Not entirely, but I threw a wrench into things. My parents got groceries last Wednesday, preparing for Christmas dinner. They purchased a $48 turkey for our family dinner, that odds are I’m probably not going to be able to attend. I will be at the girlfriends house to have dinner there, so it’s still up in the air as to whether we will make a return appearance to the ‘rents house for dinner. Well my Dad asked me to put the turkey downstairs in the freezer. Well I graciously obliged and did just that. Saturday morning(I was pretty much awol from Thursday to Saturday morning due to soccer and going out and stuff) I wake up to find out that on Thursday night my Mom had meandered downstairs to find the freezer door open and the turkey partially thawed. So they pulled it out to be cooked this weekend, a week ahead of schedule, and cooked it up so it wouldn’t go bad in the meantime. I can only assume the fact the freezer wasn’t closed was my fault as I was the only one who went downstairs to put stuff in the fridge. Now we managed to avert disaster, but the turkey dethawing totally screwed up the flow of the much hallowed Christmas dinner in our house.
Now I’m being a trifle overdramatic about things. But I know I’ve rocked the boat at very least. My Dad is a bit upset about me not being there for Christmas dinner. I think it probably has to do with me moving out in the New Year, so odds are he just wants one final family Christmas before our whole family dynamic changes, probably permanently. I can sympathize. I really like what Christmas traditions we have. I definitely think I’ll make an effort to come back for dinner at home. I really like the dinner spread we put on at my house. It is often quite aces. My Mom makes some top shelf gravy, I make the mashed potatoes(my specialty), Norm Dawg usually mans the stuffing and squash and my sister has our backs in the auxillary vegetable department, as well as a hand in the gravy prep.
And on a side-note. Hopefully everyone likes the delicious Christmas decorations I have put up. I was checking out CreativeBits today and they had a bit on how to do the snowflakes, so I couldn’t resist this coolness.
