The organizer of Live 8 in Toronto defended the lineup that was put forth on Tuesday. It seems a fair amount of the press has been ragging on the lineup, with just cause. There seems to be so much going with music of late in Canada, with bands that actually have been noticed outside our borders first instead of being jammed down our collective throats to fill Canadian content quotas on our airwaves and passed off as actual popular music. They tried to justify the lineup by saying that Our Lady Peace and Simple Plan are hip and with-it bands. Hello?!? Our Lady Peace’s last good album came out in 1997, and it wasn’t even as good as their first record from 1994, Naveed. Does that sound like hip and with-it? Simple Plan is just whiney schlock by french poser punks. It’s some of the most irritating crap that clutters the airwaves today. Everyone else on the bill is past their prime. Adding Jet(who seems to be playing every show under the sun of late), isn’t going to help.
Here’s another take on it.
