Over my lunch break I read this article in the Globe & Mail about how television and viewing habits of people have changed between the genders. This article rang true with me on many levels, as the writer basically had the same habits as I have. When I watch television I’ll normally check what’s on TSN or Sportnet, if I don’t know already what is going to be on the channel already. This draws the ire of Corina often, because there is always sports on when I’m watching TV. By the same token, anytime I come into the room while shes watching TV, I will find either a soap opera, decorating, makeover or wedding show gracing the screen.

What this article pointed out was the fact that TV has become so fractured that it creates constant conflicts with viewers. I can sit down to watch TV and be assured that one of the 6, 7, 8 channels I have covering sports will have something of interest to me. Corina can do the same thing finding programming that suits her tastes on a cornicopia of stations. Back when there were only 5 or 6 decent stations on TV to watch, you often comprimised and found something all parties involved would be willing to watch because there weren’t alot of options. Now that’s not really the case. There is always something on that will grab your interest. It’s interesting that everyone for the longest time has pushed for more choice, only to find that it creates more conflict and division in people’s viewing habits.
