Something has been missing lately. It took me a bit to figure it out, but there is a void that opened up in my life of late. I only realized it yesterday afternoon when Corina and I were hanging out in our apartment. Where the hell did all the sports go? The Olympics are currently on, but I’ve kinda lost my feel for them when I realized I could find the results of the events hours before they actually get broadcast on CBC. I hadn’t missed it the last couple of weeks, but it all of the sudden dawned on me that Sunday seemed lacking without NFL football. The NHL is on hiatus while they participate in the Olympics, so my fantasy teams are in limbo until next week. Saturday nights don’t feel right without a hockey game to watch. The English Premier League was playing FA Cup games this weekend, so I didn’t get any sportsnet soccer saturday action.

There were some big events on this weekend though. The Daytona 500 was on, but we all know turning left isn’t a sport. The funny thing I find about Nascar is the fact they have their biggest event of the year as the first one of the year. It’s like holding the World Series during spring training. It doesn’t make any sense. And the NBA All-Star game took place, but again, really, basketball isn’t a sport. It’s really just a race to 100 points with a bunch of made for SportsCenter highlights included. What’s the point of watching the first 46 min when it quite frequently comes down to the last shot of the game. I’m telling you, baseball season cannot get here soon enough.
