So this weekend has definitely been a whirlwind. It pretty much started out with Corina finding out her contract wasn’t being renewed at work, so that set things off on a poor foot. Soon after that news hit we headed into Kitchener to give Robb’s new BBQ a baptism by sausage, via some tube steak my sister and I picked up that afternoon. It was definitely a good time(aside from the whole Senators game and what I will refer to from now on as the Volchenkov Incedent), and it allowed Corina to get her mind off the job situation. Her contract is up at the end of May, so she has a couple weeks before she’s out of a job.
Anyhow, given the Senators had played on Friday that left Saturday night free to fill with some real Hockey Night in Canada action. We went to check out the Cambridge Winterhawks against the Niagara Falls Canucks at the Galt Arena Gardens where a sellout crowd(and possibly more) took in the action. This was game 5 and Cambridge was leading the best of 7 Sutherland Cup series 3-1, so they were looking to clinch on home ice. After a tight first period that yielded a late goal by Niagara Falls, Cambridge stormed out to a 3-1 lead after 2. The game got rather chippy, with lots of penalties and 10 minute misconducts. Cambridge kept pouring it on and took the game and the championship series with a 6-2 victory. The goalie for the Niagara Falls team apparently had a groin injury and still played the game and actually played stellar considering his condition. Anytime he went down he was very slow to get up and in obvious pain. Of the 6 goals he gave up, 2 were on breakaways and 3 were feeds out front where the defense failed to pick up the man. So given he was in so much pain, I give the guy full kudos for trying to keep his team in it for as long as he did. Cambridge played very strong and totally outmatched Niagara Falls. The also game featured an awesome fight. I think Bob Probert would have been proud of those two duking it out. Anyhow, with the win Cambridge got presented the Sutherland Cup, which was for the winner of the Southern Ontario region for Junior "B" hockey. It was truly amazing to see the outpouring of support from the community for this team and this level of hockey.
So Sunday was pretty low key for the most part. Pretty much the only things we did was go grocery shopping. Now normally I wouldn’t mention a mundane detail like grocery shopping on this fast paced, high quality blog establishment, but it’s not everyday I come back from the gorcery store with this.
10 pounds of beef! This was just sheer awesomeness. It was on for $.97 a pound too. As you can see above, I don’t think you want to mess with me and my 10lb beef cannon. Sadly I had to open it and portion it off, but it was fun having 10lbs of beef in a handy tube format. Though it definitely made for some good burgers.
