[[image:goodparlogo.gif:ParticipACTION:left:0]]Today news broke that the ParticipACTION program would be making its return. Anyone who’s grown up in Canada will be familiar with the program. It was launched in the 1970’s with the goal of motivating Canadians into being more active. I fondly remember all the commercials they used to run, especially the Body Break ones. The commercials were always kind of corny, but endearing at the same time.
[[image:hal_joanne.jpg:Hal and Joanne:right:0]]The Body Break commercials featured Hal Johnson and Joanne McLeod, taking part in all sorts of physical activities. The due always seemed to be sporting awesome jump suits and running apparel from 1988. Even the later commercials(which I believe are still being made today) featured some gloriously out of date get ups. I personally was always a fan of Hal Johnson’s mustache. It was pretty top shelf. In recent years he has shaved it, to which I say, reinstate the pushbroom Hal.
If you’re interested in checking out some of these commercials, there is an awesome website about the whole ParticipACTION program, which features lots of information, and most importantly, videos. That Don’t Just Think About It – Do It song is pretty damn catchy and will probably be stuck in my head for the rest of the day.
