I’m sad to hear the news that one of my favourite wrestlers from the 1980′s has passed on. Allan Coage, known to a generation of WWF fans as Bad News Brown, died today at age 63. I always considered him an innovator in the WWF, as I feel his character was practically the basis for the Stone Cold Steve Austin character that was so successful in the late 1990′s. He was the original grey area bad guy. You couldn’t trust him in any way, shape or form, whether you were a good guy or a bad guy. As soon as you turned your back he’s land a boot upside your head with his patented “Ghettoblaster” finishing move. He was sporting the bald guy in black tights, boots and pads 10 years before Stone Cold thought of it. I’ll always have fond memories of Bad News beating up on jobbers Superstars and Wrestlemania 4 when he won the Battle Royale by double crossing Bret Hart. He was then awarded a 7 foot tall trophy, which then was promptly smashed over his head by sore loser Bret. Makes me want to bust out my old VHS tape of WM 4. Peace the spork out Bad News.
