lijit logoI ran across a great little site/app called Lijit today. Lijit is a search engine which bridges the gap between your site and the various communities you take part in. After using it for all of 5 minutes I was sold and decided to retrofit into my search box at the top of each page.

The setup of the service was an absolute snap. To get started you just pop in your site URL and it then begins to scan for instances of your sitename on various popular social networking, community and bookmarking. Since I use Digg, Mybloglog and del.icio.us with the username modsuperstar it quickly found and linked those to my account.

When you input a search, there are 4 tabs at the top of the search, My Blog, My Content, My Network and Web. My Blog returns results from my website. My Content will return results from my site, as well as results from sites like Digg, Reddit and del.icio.us. My Network uses community data from sites like MyBlogLog to display results from the extended network of sites I frequent. And the Web tab returns regular web results. And all the results are powered by Google.

I definitely think that it is a giant improvement over the previous Pivot powered search that I had, so I definitely recommend trying it out for your blog or website.
