Hope everyone made it into 2008 mostly unscathed. Mine was off to a bad start, as the first 2 days were a write off. Someone(though I won’t name names Dick and Kitchen) had conned me into doing a shot Jaggermeister, which is pretty much a bad idea all together. I have never been hungover like that, so I either had alcohol poisoning or I got double whammied with a flu at the same time, which had been going around Corina’s family very recently. Either way it sucked. I’m still feeling the after effects of the whole thing 4 days later. I ended up missing the traditional New Year’s Day road hockey game which happens every year in front of my parents house. I have played road hockey on New Year’s Day pretty much every year since I was 8, so I felt pretty bad about missing it. Oh well, guess there’s always 2009.

Now since the start of 2008 I’ve had 2 beefs. First of all being people bitching about the cold. We live in Canada. I know the last couple of years we have been spoiled by having warmer winters, but the reality is, we still live in the northern part of the Northern Hemisphere. Personally I welcome it. Maybe it’s because I grew up in the Ottawa area where winter actually entailed lots of snow and -30 celcius wasn’t that uncommon, but the last couple of years just haven’t felt right with all the green Christmas’ and mid-January thaws. Suck it up and go skiing or something instead of whining.

My other beef is the never ending Boxing Day here in Canada. Boxing Day used to be a single day for ridiculously cheap shopping. Then it became Boxing Week, where the deals typically weren’t as good as on Boxing Day, but they were decent. Now retailers drag this marketing ploy on for weeks now, trying to pass average sales off as Boxing Day savings. I know the retailers just want to keep people opening their wallets well into January, but offering up weak sales and passing them off as Boxing Day deals is pretty weak.
