Have you ever done something that you know is stupid, yet still somehow seem drawn to do it anyways thinking somehow it might not turn out badly? That was me yesterday morning. It had snowed the last couple of days and the plows haven’t really cleared out the streets, with many side-streets being a total disaster. I park on one of these side-streets(on a down-sloping hill) a few blocks away from where I work to avoid paying $8 a day to park in the downtown lots. There isn’t a lot of parking on said street, and with all the snow many of spots were snowed in. Well me, in my infinite wisdom, decided that it would be a good idea to just plow over a snowbank into a parking spot. I was already a little late after a slow drive in and I didn’t want to waste any more time fighting for a parking spot. The snowbank wasn’t that big, but my car is a 2001 Hyundai Accent, which isn’t quite known for its off-road performance(or on-road performance either for that matter). As soon as I did it I knew it was a mistake. I tried to pull backwards up the hill and was stuck. I knew pretty much my only hope of getting out without a lot of digging was that the city plow might come along and clear up the parking spots in front of me while I was at work today.

Of course that pipe dream didn’t happen, so when I arrived back to my car at 4:45 it was still in the same predicament I left it in. I tried digging the car out with my gloves for awhile which didn’t achieve much. I then borrowed a shovel from someone on the street and was able to dig the wheels out enough to get going. It took me a half hour to get everything sorted. So I finally get heading home and about halfway home I notice there is a crack in my windshield on the passenger side. Safe to say I was in a rather foul mood after I discovered that. Since it gets added to a pile of other maintenance I need have done on my car already it really ticked me off. I need an oil change, a tire rotation, the lights behind my dash keep going squiggy on me and I need to get a drive clean test done because my birthday is coming up. Not amused.
