For those considering doing this with an iPhone4 or iPad: keep in mind these use microSIM cards (where iPhone 3GS and earlier used a regular SIM), so it may not be as simple as taking the SIM out of your current phone. That said, apparently you can physically trim your full-sized SIM card to fit (that is, assuming Rogers won't transfer your PAY-AS-YOU-GO SIM info to a new microSIM). I haven't tried this, but a quick Google search yields a few how-to sites (eg http://blog.23x.net/466/make-your-own-micro-sim.html).

You would have to buy it from Apple or Rogers as a no contract phone. It's costly, but if you don't want to be encumbered by a contract that is the route to go.

1) Unlocking: nope, you should be good to go.
2) Whatever your current paygo service is will continue just as it is.
3) Yep, slapping in the SIM should suffice, but you will want to configure the phone personally with iTunes anyway. Chances are you'll also have a bunch of manual cleanup ahead of you if you import your SIM phonebook.
4) Disabling 3G etc.: yup.

Ok guys I have a Sony Ericsson W350i on PAYG and I use the $100 cards and Rogers takes off $10 a month giving me 2500 free texts. I am going to buy a used iPhone 3GS locked to Rogers or the guy will unlock it for me if I want.
1) So do I need it unlocked since I'm on Rogers and it's on Rogers?
2) Also will my $10/month for 2500 texts carry on to the iphone or will it just be standard PAYG where money is taken off my balance every time i do something?
3)Do I just pop my SIM in and I'm good to go? Or do I need to do some iTunes thing or something? If so please explain as I am a newb at this.
4) I don't want the data/3g etc. just wifi so do i just disable those settings by going into the settings?
