Lol nice robot picture, I love it! I dislike Walmart for the fact that little kids make the items, but it is a really good store and really cheap if you have a low income...

See that's the hard thing - someone sells products to Wal-Mart. It's very rare that they actually have to source out the materials they carry. Wal-Mart sells other peoples products. You see their price tags, but other than the George line of clothing - everything else is from a third party. Someone had to sell that product to them. They demand low prices because they can. Companies want to be in there because even though the prices are lower, they sell insane amounts and therefore it all balances out.

But the stuff you get isn't always the best quality stuff. You get what you pay for in most cases - which is very similar to Ikea. You see a lot of people shopping there right? It's not like that furniture is made in Canada either but no one really complains about that.

Sean, how are their practices any different then anyone else out there? Everyone outsources. Jobs at Walmart aren't rocket science and probably shouldn't warrant much more then minimum wage. It's only in North America where unions have ingrained in peoples heads that low skill work deserves premium wage. Why else is the work being outsourced?

I know a thing or two about Walmart* given the dealings that our company has with them. I think that the reason they garner so much attention is because they are number one. If Canadian Tire was number one, I'm sure we would be hearing all about them.

The fact of the matter is that competitors of Walmart*, for the most part, simply aren't as sophisticated in their collection of market information, sharing of data with suppliers/employees and logistics.

If anything, people should be mad at the fact that other retailers have not adapted well to life with Walmart*. Look at Canadian Tire - its basically a deal house. They have a big promotion on an item at a crazy price, then after the promo is done, the price on the item is significantly more expensive than competitors. I wouldn't go to CT for an Everyday Low Price, as Walmart* offers.

The idea that Walmart has somehow done something "to us" is absurd. People vote with the wallets and the results are clear.

People don't have a problem with the low prices. The issue is how Walmart achieves these prices by using cheap labour in Asia to make the products and then shipping them across the world (burning oil). Then they use minimum wage labour at the store level to sell it. Oh yeah, and they tend to come into towns and kill local businesses through their efficiencies of scale thereby removing the profits from the local community. They are not the only ones using this business model but are the most successful.

I agree with you. Because they are cheaper doesn't means they are bad.
