Loooooong weekend

Gawd it feels like forever since I was at work. It was Canada Day on friday, so that was busy. Corina and I got to pick the colour for the bedrooms in our apartment when the landlords dropped by on Friday morning. It’s going to be a nice blue colour, which should be cool. Then off to Corina’s parents for a bit of a visit, then to Brantford for the Canada Day festival that my sister had helped organize, where she managed the vendors marketplace. Corina and I popped in at about 5:30 and had about 2 hours to kill until Lindsey needed some help with take down. At 7 we popped by Lindsey’s area and ended up getting recruited to help sell Canada Day merchandise. As all the other vendors were shutting down, the booth was still selling lots of stuff, so we stayed setup as long as possible. After it was all said and done Lindsey thought she broke even on her area, which was pretty good considering this was the first year of operation for this festival. We were talking yesterday and I think I’m going to try and help out with it next year. I have lots of ideas on how to improve some of the merchandise. I want to design some t-shirts and possibly get involved with the website.

Anyhow, once the booth was shut down Lindsey and I took a golfcart to where Corina’s car was parked so we could grab some sweaters, as it was cooling down for the evening. The park is in a valley, so I had to climb a steep hill to get to where the car was parked. I jogged over to the car as fast as possible(with a torn ACL) and headed back the same way I came only to find a rent-a-cop in my way, who tells me I have to go around because it’s a fire route. I explain that I just came through here and my sister, who was part of the organizing commitee, was waiting 20 metres away in a golfcart at the bottom of the hill. So I made my way around the long way, restaining myself from spewing a long string of profanities at the cop for being a total douchebag. I phoned Lindsey and told her the news and she headed off back to the park. Apparently she saw the cop watch her leave too, so the fuckstick knew I was telling the truth. So eventually I made it back after walking an unnecessary kilometre around the long way. Luckily this story had a happy ending, as when I finally got back, we went into the beer tent for some delicious beers. We then took in a pretty well done fireworks show once Jeff Healy finished his set. I was quite impressed with the whole Canada Day festivities. Well run and it went off without a hitch.

From then on it was pretty much down to business, unsystematically tearing my apartment apart. I’m terrible at packing for a move. I’m too scatterbrained for it. I have about 10 half full boxes and stuff in utter chaos. Luckily I found out that we are getting the keys on Tuesday night now, so I can get some stuff out of the way instead of tripping on all the chaos.

Who Are Some Of These People? And did anyone catch the Live 8 highlights from Barrie? The finale of Keep on rockin in the free world was just terrible. Who are all those people? Gotta love how 3/4 of all the people on the stage for the finale were filler. Leave it to Canada to have a stage full of people that no one has any clue who they are. The one thing from the Live 8 shows that I want to see if the Coldplay and Richard Ashcroft collaboration. They did Bittersweet Symphony together, so that would be interesting, though I could totally see Chris Martin ruining the whole song.

Update:
I found a video of the performance which can be seen here. It’s decent. I like the guitar nearing the end of the song. It’s good seeing Mad Richard again. His sunglasses look bad-ass.

Ta-da

So my blog makeover is complete.  Take a look around and tell me
what you think.  I think it’s alot cleaner and balanced, though
not that my last layout was that bad, just needed some new
freshness.  If you find anything going wrong as well, please
mention it to me.  I tested this layout on my Mac in IE, Safari
and Firefox, so if anything if going weird on the PC side of things,
tell me.  I’ve added the new photos section to the site.
I’ve been sitting on a decent amount of good pictures that I had been
planning on putting up, so here are a few of them.

Aight?

I carry a madness, everywhere I go

This is something I’ve been mulleting over for a bit and think I’m
going to do on the weekend.  I’m going to go for a second viewing
of Star Wars.  Thighmaster
gave Revenge Of The Sith another shot, so I think I will.  Star
Wars and I have been estranged for a bit, but I feel there might be
some kind of reconsiliation to be had.  I’m probably going to see
it in digital too, so maybe that will make it better.  I’m also
going to try to cram in watching The Phantom Menace, Attack Of The
Clones and my still unwatched Clone Wars dvd.  There has been a
fair bit of rumors going around about other new Star Wars movies,
but I could really only accept this if George Lucas had no part
whatsoever in their creation.  The idea is to have this stuff take
place 800-1000 years previous to Episode 1, which has been fleshed out
pretty well by other minds in comic and video game form.  The only
thing really left hanging in the whole telling of the Star Wars story
is Palpatine.  Where did he come from?  How long was he
working on this plan?  How old is he really?

I went out for dinner with a bunch of friends last night and we did a
recap of the Chicago trip.  I missed a bunch of stuff, but that’s
kinda to be expected.  Matt apparently witnessed a sword fight in
a bathroom stall between 2 guys, if you catch my drift. That was on the
way back to Canada in Michigan I think.  There was apparently a
homeless guy directing traffic out front of our hotel for a half hour
during rush hour.  There was nothing wrong with the light, but
people were still following his direction.  I also got to hear the
story of the pimp at the bus stop too.  Seems I missed alot of the
local colour.  The only homeless guy I really talked to was one
giving away post cards for a donation.  At the time I only had
Canadian change, so he refused.  It’s pretty bad that Canadian
money is avoided like the plague, so much so that you can’t give it to
homeless guys.  It sounded like everyone had a great time and had
alot of their own experiences.  I ordered a crapload of trip
photos through snapfish yesterday.

ketchup

For some reason I was pondering the history of Ketchup(or
as Phil prefers to call it, Red Sauce) this morning while in the
shower.  It just struck me what an odd word Ketchup is, so I
thought I would investigate.  Now I know.  I’ve always found
condiments amusing.  Jokes about mustard always seem to go over
best.  My friend Les
always gets on his burger “ketchup, mustard, mayo on the sammich
please”.  This was a running joke for years among my
friends.  I found a tshirt somewhere on the interweb that actually
had a picture of all three condiments that I really wanted to get Les
for his birthday(if anyone knows where I can get one, any help would be
appreciated, I can’t seem to find it again).  Actually on one
birthday Jordan, Chance and I each bought him a large tub of each said
condiment.  It was great.

Alex from Blagg Blogg
confesses his hidden shame.  He had never beat Super Mario
Brothers before last week.  Oh the shame, but at least he has
finally found redemption.

Trip of trips

jamEs in Chicago and stuff

Now here is my long awaited account of the whole trip to Chicago. So much stuff happened since I last blogged it’s almost mindboggling to try and recount it, but I’ll give it a try. The trip was a fucking blast. We did pretty much everything we could possibly cram into time we had there and it made for an amazing time. Chicago is a beautiful city and has alot of charm. I love it and would definitely go back at some point. Anyhow, onto the trip. (Just a heads up, this post is beastly big with pictures)

Friday
Corina and I left Paris at 9 in the morning and went on our way. There were 3 cars heading to Chicago, but none of them were taking off at the same point, so it was just Corina and I. We got to travel a whole area I had never seen, from the 402 west, as I had never travelled furthur west in Canada then London. We crossed at Sarnia without too much trouble(aside from a momentary passport freakout). Then into the US. Things got off to a bad start as about a minute down the road Corina spotted a spider(who we named Mitch) hanging from the inside windshield of the car that subsequently fell to the floor before I could get it and was never seen again. Corina has a big fear of spiders, so this wasn’t good. It was a business looking spider too, not just some daddy long legs or something. Anyhow, we got going again crossing Michigan. Boy is that area boring. It’s so flat and unremarkable. I highly doubt anyone extolling the virtues of seeing America and how great it is was talking about central Michigan. There were lots of crazy signs and roadkill along the roads. Makes me kinda realize why people from the US come to Canada and seem to always remark how clean it is. It’s because we spend money to have people clean up the animal goo that collects along our roads. The signs that got me in Michigan were the "Injure/Kill a roadworker $7500 fine and 15 years in jail". Now the sign in and of itself is fine, but it’s the fact that it’s happened so much that they have to post a sign telling people not to kill roadworkers. Really, it’s just common sense. Anyhow, we made it through Michigan, which was the bulk of the trip, into Indiana. Those SOBs and their stupid toll roads. Everyone bitches about how high the taxes in Canada are, yet those go to build our infrastructure instead of nickel and diming you to death for the priveledge of driving the most direct route to places. We spent over something like $15 to travel across the various bridges and roads along the way. Rediculous. Anyhow, we cleared Indiana into Illinois. The rest was pretty straight forward aside from all the crazy highway names. We arrived by 5 central time at the luxurious(well maybe not) Travelodge Downtown about a half hour after Phil, Noel, Tiffany and Vanessa. We were pretty close to everything we needed in the city from our hotel, so even though it wasn’t the best place in the world, it was functional.
The El

We checked in, then regrouped to go for dinner. We made a gangly mob heading through the streets of Chicago with 11 of us in tow. Chicago wasn’t quite what I expected. I had in my mind expected Toronto with more hustle and bustle. This wasn’t the case. It was actually pretty tame and charming. The city reeked of history and culture, with lots of great buildings and local colour to be seen everywhere. My favourite thing about the views of the city was "The El", which is the subway transit system that weaves it’s way through Chicago. It reminded me of playing Burnout 3 everytime, or Blues Brothers. We made our way to Giordano’s to partake in one of Chicago’s delicacies, deep-dish pizza. Boy howdy was that filling. It was terribly good though. I keep craving the stuff since, but I guess I’m kinda SOL.

Deep-Dish Pizza
After dinner we headed up the street to the Sears Tower. We wanted to wait a bit so we could head up closer to dusk, so we wandered around and checked out the raised bridges and whatnot, then headed up. Only Phil, Vanessa and I made the trek and it was well worth it. Everyone else in our crew was either strapped for cash, sick, disinterested, afraid of heights or whatever, so it was just the three of us. We spent over an hour up there checking things out.

Sears Tower

It was the perfect time of day to go. We got up just as a storm was rolling in, so we could see it come across and start raining. The whole tower had interactive displays and stuff, so you could learn more about Chicago and it helped you find landmarks easily. We spotted most of the stadiums like Comiskey and United Center. We didn’t get to see Wrigley Field at all because the Cubs were out of town, but we had the general neibourhood pointed out to us. We went up at dusk, so we were able to see all the lights come on and line the streets. It was very cool. I got lots of cool pictures of everything up there. We even saw a rainbow right near the tower. It was actually more like a loop but it was a sight to see. It was a little disappointing that my camera couldn’t get all the pictures I wanted because there was so many great views, but some crummy shooting conditions. We were up there for over an hour and just had a blast.

When we got down the rain had stopped for the most part, so we did a little wandering of the streets. The area we were in seemed to roll up the streets early, so nothing was really open, but we got to check out a couple cool sculptures and whatnot in the buildings. The architechture was amazing. On our way back decided to go check out the big fountain by the lake and witnessed some craziness and had a near death experience. Phil stepped onto the street to cross when we had the right of way when all of the sudden a cube van truck deally guns it’s engine and takes off. It narrowly misses a car waiting at the light and cuts off another coming up to the light. It then smokes through the solid red light and clips the back end of a BMW and keeps going. It then proceeds to blow through another three lights before stopping at the next light, then taking off again. The back was wide open and we can only assume it was some kind of robbery or something. Crazy shit. After that we were pretty wired having witnessed some crime, so we checked out the fountains and headed back to the hotel to tell everyone about our adventures.

Saturday
We got up early and wanted to grab some breakfast. Apparently this is a foreign concept to the folks in Chicago, as there were no places to go. After walking around for about half an hour we ended up right where we started, at the hotel. I had hoped to find a great local place like Corina and I had in Ottawa when we went. We found a couple great local haunts then, but this was not the case this trip. The place in the hotel was pretty ghetto and after partaking in the meal, left me wanting. I got to have some real hashed browns and wasn’t too impressed. And it was expensive. It cost $9 us to get meal I could have got for $4 cdn. That aside, we went about doing some more sight seeing. We went back to the fountain for the sake of Corina and discovered in the light of day it was actually the fountain from the start of Married With Children. We heel toed it through the parks that trace the lakeshore to the Shedd Aquarium.
fish
iguana
Penguins
I got lots of great pictures at the aquarium and saw all sorts of weird and wonderful animals. I’ve never been a huge fish person, but there was so much cool stuff at that place. I know Corina loved the crabs especially. There was a fish there called Granddad that was over 70 years old.

After that we grabbed a bite to eat, then off to Soldier Field. We made sure to show up early so we could take in warmups and stuff. When we got in I checked out the merch stand and picked up a white England jersey and Corina got an England scarf. We then met up with everyone and made our way down to field level on the England end. We got some choice spots and got some great pictures of the squad warming up. Makes me wish I had a video of their warmup so we could use it for our team. The team that England fielded wasn’t that great, but really shows you the strength of their system. There was only 1 starter from the regular England squad in the game(Sol Campbell), but it didn’t dampen things. While I would have loved to have said I saw Beckham, Rooney, Gerrard, Lampard and Terry, it just didn’t happen.
Warm Up
We made our way to our seats and they were pretty decent. They were off camera side on the first level. As it turns out it was the end where all the action happened. England struck first 4 minutes in on a free kick from Kieran Richardson from just outside the box.
Free Kick
England struck again before half as Richardson tallied his second. The second half the US pressed and managed a goal to make the game close. David James got hung out to dry on that one with 2 US guys behind the last defenders. Anyhow, final score, England 2 USA 1. It was a good game with plenty of action. Joe Cole and Alan Smith were the men to watch on the field. I found anytime Cole had the ball he made someone look foolish. Alan Smith was either being fouled or commiting fouls the whole game, so it seemed he was the centre of attention alot of the time. The crowd was 48,000 strong, with tonnes of England supporters in attendance. They started songs and were singing for a good chunk of the game. I think the US fans got pissed that they were being outshone in their own stadium, so they tried to match the english supporter in volume. Overall it was a great atmosphere. The stadium was covered with England flags, outnumbering the US flags 10-1 at least. We all piled out and made our way back to the hotel. The walk back was fun walking through the tunnel walkways as people started England chants only to be met with USA chants. It was an experience. Corina got a kick out of the fact that one tunnel had a guy playing the sax to the tune of Sesame Street booming through.

We all made it back to the hotel and chilled for a bit before heading off to the Navy Pier, an entertainment, shopping mecca/tourist trap. There were lots of cool restaurants. We decided to walk there, which was rather ill advised. It took forever, we got lost and managed to end up in the Chicago Police impound lot. After what had to be an hour of walking we finally made it to the Pier. Phil had scouted out a place that had 70 varieties of beer, so it was a mut. I had a beer from Louisiana and Corina had one from Indiana(I think). The selection of food at the restaurant was iffy, but whatever. The wings sucked. All burn and no taste. The dessert was good, as Noel and I got Root Beer floats. We then poked around a bit before Corina and I decided to head back. The walking had killed both of us. I’ve never walked so much that my hips hurt, but that was the case. We called it a night early and cabbed it back to the hotel. Turns out it was less then a $10 cab ride, so we should have just done that in the first place and skipped the hour walk there.

Sunday
We got up über early, as it turns out our clock was 2 hours fast. I wanted to get hustling so we didn’t catch the rush for breakfast. We left at 8:30am. Everyone had gone to a place up a couple blocks for breakfast, so we went to check it out. We show up and they say they don’t open until 7. Turns out it was 6:50 instead of 8:45. Ouch. Either way, we had breakfast. The hashed brown were alot better here, which made the meal that much better. Still an expensive breakfast, but better then the day before. I reiterate my point that Americans don’t know breakfast. Breakfast should be cheap and ample, which neither breakfast was. Corina and I made our way back to the hotel and packed up so we could get a head start on our trip back. We got heading out by about 8:30 as everyone else was rolling out for breakfast.

Corina and James Go To White Castle

Corina & James Go To White Castle

On our way out of town we spotted a White Castle, which had been one of the things I had wanted to go to while in the US. It was closed, so we headed on our way out of Chicago. On the way I spied a sign for White Castle, so we stopped for gas and checked it out. I got the 4 burger meal and Corina got the 2 chicken melt meal. The whole gimmick is little gooey burgers that melt in your mouth. They were pretty gross. Corina’s was apparently decent, but it was fulling.

The Big House

On our way through Michigan we opted to instead go through Detroit instead of Sarnia. The plan was to go through Ann Arbor, home of my beloved Michigan Wolverines. We stopped at the Big House and took a couple of pictures. Twas fun on a bun. Now to go to an actual game there. I’ve always wanted to do this. Being in a crowd of 110,000 people would be just nuts.

Anyhoo, we kept on going onward to Detroit. Boy was that a mistake. The ramp we wanted to take to the bridge to Canada was out(with no forward warning), then we ended up getting looped around where there was another poorly marked ramp to it that we missed. So we ended up in downtown Detroit. It wasn’t nearly as scary as everyone makes it out to be, but either way I didn’t want to be there. I was expecting bullet holes everywhere and to be offered crack while driving through. Corina found the turn to the tunnel to Canada on a small sign so we had to cut over 2 lanes of traffic to make it. We got to the tunnel and finally made our way into Canada. Customs was a snap and we were back in Canada. Whew! I never knew there was so much distance between Windsor and London. I always through they were like two peas in a pod, but that is not the case. We stopped for dinner in London at Pizza Hut and just as we were leaving found out that the London Knights beat the Rimouski Oceanic to win the Memorial Cup, for the first time in their 40 year history, so the employees were all celebrating. It was kind of amusing. We made it back to Paris at 8pm to finish our journey.

Dog Poop

By garr that was the whole weekend fun. I had monday off to unwind, which I’m glad I did. I don’t think coming to work on Monday would have been that great. To anyone who is thinking of going to Chicago, I highly recommend it. Everyone we encountered was very friendly and the city was clean and bright, with lots of parks, at least around where we were. We were apparently a couple blocks away from any of the nightlife, but on the cab ride back to the hotel we got to see some of it. And remember the sage advice that this sign gave me. Corina did her run down of the trip, so you should check that shizz out.

Just a heads up

I’m working on my blog about my trip.  It’s immense, so I’ll have
to finish it tommorow.  I’m back safe and sound and itching to
finish it, but it’s still a work in progress.

Shout It Out Loud

Although I wasn’t too fond of the new Star Wars movie, I was happy to see that it is giving a proper boot fucking
to assorted challengers to the throne, like Spider-Man, Shrek and Lord
Of The Rings.  Star Wars has reclaimed pretty much all the records
it had lost in the last couple of years, which is awesome.  I
honestly didn’t think that this movie had that much hype and
anticipation going in, but then again I was removed from the frenzy in
the last couple of years.

And Oasis were officially acclaimed the most successful act of the last decade.  It may be just England, but I’ll take it.  Screw you Bono.

Had a crazy weekend.  It was the long weekend and with all I did,
it seems like ages since I was at work.  My bowels are defintely
worse for wear after this weekend.  I ate ribs, steak(x2), hot
dogs(x2), chinese food and a meatball sub.  Bad idea.  Friday
Corina and I did all the prep work for having people over on Saturday
night.  We BBQ’d and had dinner with Corina’s parents when she
mentioned about how I had really wanted to drive her Dad’s
tractor(Which I don’t recall saying).  So anyhow, 10:30 comes
along and I get beckoned upstairs to go help her Dad.  Turns out
he wanted me to drive the tractor and mow the lawn, at 10:30 at
night.  So I hopped on, got the jist of thing and went about
it.  It was quite funny.  I finished at about 11:30 using the
front light and a flashlight.  I bet the neighbours loved that,
but screw em.

Saturday everyone came over for BBQ and bonfire.  It was a good
time.  We did up some hot dogs with all the fixings and baked
potatoes.  I got to play some footie and run around, which was
pretty good for me given I had a sore back and a bum knee, but I still
managed.  It must be duly noted that pretty much all the chocolate
for the smores had been consumed by the women by the time our soccer
playing was over.  Tsk. Tsk.  Everyone left by 12:30 and
Corina and I stayed in the backyard out in the tent.  It’s a nice
tent and worked out quite well.  I even managed to get a decent
sleep too.

Sunday we went to a BBQ in honour of my parents 25th wedding
anniversary.  For that occasion my sister, Corina, Rich and I
pitched in and sent them to Toronto to have dinner at the CN Tower and
an evenings stay at the Sheraton downtown Toronto.  From all
accounts they had a great time, even after getting lost in the bowels
of the hotel.  Leave it to my mom to do that.

Monday was supposed to be a lazy day, but ended up being quite sad as
we got a call telling us we should come to the hospital to see Corina’s
Grandmother.  She hasn’t been well for the last while and had been
taken off IV and couldn’t have her lungs drained anymore.  She
passed away this morning at 2:30am.  She was a kind lady who had a
very tough life.  I’m glad she is at peace and not suffering
anymore.

Bitter bus, honk honk

Bitter Bus

Boy howdy have I got alot to go on about of late.  I’m at work at
the moment and in a fair amount of pain.  I had yesterday off as
part of my Star Wars holiday and ended up injuring myself.  Corina
was moving a bunch of stuff around her place and I was helping
out.  She wanted a desk to be moved upstairs, so I graciously
obliged and got the thing upstairs and into the office.  When
trying to manuever the desk in the confined office space I pulled
something in my back.  It really sucks.  I had never done
anything of the sort, so I didn’t know what was going on.  My back
less at issue then with the fact I couldn’t breathe very well.  It
was rather unpleasant.  I realize that Robaxicet’s are fucking
useless.  I’m thinking when I get home I’m going to take some of
my leftover antiinflamatories from my knee.  Those should do the
trick.  On top of that I have a sun burn on the top of my
head.  I had my hair cut last week before the wedding, so it’s
still pretty short.  I subsequently got the sunburn because I was
sitting in the sun all day waiting to see Star Wars.  It really
hurts now 2 days after.  It was painful taking a shower this
morning.

Speaking of the wait, it wasn’t too bad.  Jordan and Les went to
lineup the night before at about 11.  That subsequently seemed to
be rather stupid given no one showed up in between the time they showed
up and when I arrived after a decent nights sleep at 7:30 in the
morning.  There had been a handful of people there already staying
overnight.  The people who were ahead of us were younger and I
think more hyped up to see the movie, probably because it was the first
time their moms would let them wait in line for a Star Wars
movie.  There were a couple guys who had been there for the last 2
movies, so we got to shoot the shit with them.  We played a super
geek game of Star Wars Trivial Pursuit, which I can say that I pulled
us through for the win.  Nothing like having earned geek bragging
rights, especially in the come from behind, dominating fashion with
which it was executed.  The young guys in line were all bent out
of shape because they were ahead and we smoked past them for the
win.  I’ve forgotten more about Star Wars then most people
know.  It was a long day, but I managed to make it through.
There were lots of Star Wars costumes, most very well done.  The
funniest was the guy who had a full Darth Vader costume, but the
physique of Adam West
DC Dave Curtis did show up at about 6 or 7 and we let him and his crew
in line with us, given everyone else had done it, so they got good
seats without the wait.  After seeing the movie I was rather
venomous on the subject.  I’ve toned down my description of the
movie to include less descriptors like “skull fucking” and “visual
handjobs”.  I think at the moment Star Wars and I aren’t on
speaking terms.  I will consider us estranged for awhile, until
the point we can reconcile our differences.  I think Star Wars
felt bad about things, so when I went to Burger King yesterday I won a
free Whopper and a small burger in the Star Wars scratch and win
contest they have..  I really like Whoppers, so it’s a good start.

Since I haven’t blogged about shit that’s been going on in the world, I would like to register my outrage at Belinda Stronach becoming a Red.  I’m glad to see Liberals haven’t shied away from greasing the wheels after the AdScam ordeal.

And lastly on the topic of bitching about things, I was rather pissed
to find out that the only station on the radio that I listened to
religiously is no more.  92.9: Talk Radio for Guys only lasted for
less then a year and it’s already gone.  Replaced by one of those
fucking JackFM stations.  They used to have Howard Stern(which is still on until he moves to satellite), Don and Mike, Tom Leykis
and Loveline.  I enjoyed all those shows and am really pissed I
have to go back to listening to the garbage that currently exists on
the radiowaves.  Everything has become so homogenized in radio
it’s rediculous.

I checked my traffic stats for the website yesterday and found I had
the best single day for hits ever.  Don’t know why, normally there
is a reason for the spike, but whatever.  Keep it coming.

Food for thought: Star Wars edition

Chewbacca looks older and fatter in the past then he did in the future.

Artoo Detoo in the past apparently was some type of ninja droid with the moves he busts out in this movie.

Why the hell did Kashyyyk have no trees?  If you know anything
about Star Wars, it’s that the wookiee home planet is covered with
trees.

Brain leaking out ears

I am so tired right now.  This weekend just took it out of me.  Work has just crawled along today, which sucks.  I’ve been working on a project where I have to put french copy in place into an existing english brochure.  What a pain in the ass.  The french copy is always twice as long as the english was, so it’s a major pain to retrofit into a job. It’s like the idea of a building.  It costs more to renovate an old building then it would to tear the old building down and build a new one.  I swear that french translators do it on purpose.  It’s probably their resentment for english speaking folk that they feel the need to extract their revenge on graphic designers.  I am bilingual for the most part, so I can read a lot of the copy and know alot of the time there is no real reason there is twice as many words in the translation. And the other annoying thing with translators is the fact you could send something to 5 different translators and get 5 completely different translations.

I’m listening to Five Days in May by Blue Rodeo on my iPod at the moment.  I just thought I would mention that.

This weekend was quite busy.  Kristina and Curtis got married and that was a pretty good time.  Got to meet some pretty nice people.

I’m getting psyched about Star Wars this week.  I have Wednesday and Thursday booked off work just to go.  I’ve got it on good authority that DC Dave Curtis will be showing up for the lineup, and I haven’t seen him in ages.  I basically arranged tickets for myself and Buford, so I’m not sure who else is showing up.  I know I will probably see lots of old friends on Wednesday.

More BAM then Bambi

I got to see some local politics in action last evening.  I went
to the Conservative party nomination meeting for my riding,
Brantford/Brant County.  Dan
had been to a meeting for one of the nominees, so I went with it and
supported Phil McColeman.  Of the three candidates he was the most
lively speaker and subsequently won the nomination.  During the
speeches I found out that my riding has been a Liberal riding since
1956.  Horseapples I say.  I knew the riding had been
entrenched as a Liberal stronghold, but that’s just rediculous.
I’m excited about this election because it could be possible that we
might actually see change.  The Liberals have been in office since
1993 and I really think it’s time to take out the trash.
Apparently the last nomination meeting for the conservatives had about
300 people attend.  This one they had 600 people attend.
That shows me people are tired of their tax money being flushed down
the toilet by politicians who know their position has been unassailable
until recently.  The right wing in Canada had been divided into 2
parties since before the Liberals got in in ’93.  That is where
the power in this country lies, now we just have to show it.

I booked some holidays at work today, which I’m really looking forward
to.   I want to have some fun this summer before I have my
surgery in July.  I took the day after we get back from Chicago,
so I can rest after that chaotic weekend, then after the Canada Day
weekend I took some time so I can finally go up to Larder Lake to
Richie Rich’s cottage.  I’ve missed the trip the last couple of
years, so I figured I would make the jaunt this time around.  Corina
and I want to test out the new tent we got at Easter, so this should be
as good a test as any.  Next week I get to see Star Wars, so that
should be the shizzle
I’m almost done the book and it’s quite good.  Should be a pretty
fucking good movie.  Nothing like a 2 day Star Wars holiday.

I said I would do it, so here is a link to Mel’s blog.  She always writes about being tortured by Ewoks and other such craziness.

If you are looking for some tunes to kick off the summer with, check out the mixtape for some gooodies.

Google Maps is apparently useful if you would like to locate a brothel near you.

I blundered across this SNL skit from ages ago that I thought was so
funny back in the day, but never saw again.  It’s one of those SNL
commercials for Old Glory Robot Insurance.  Pure hilarity, like time 5. Because Robots may strike at any time.

Aight?
