SIDG: Bumper to Bumper parking

I was standing outside of work last week just before I left on Friday night. Stu and I are chatting while he has a smoke when we see this guy trying to parallel park into a rather tight spot. So he angles into the spot and slowly inches back, back, back until he bumps the Ford Focus parked behind him. He then pulls forward a bit to straighten his wheels, then backs up again right into the Focus’ bumper. Parked. It was at this point that I took the picture, while the dude was still in the car. Did he not even feel his car hit something, not once, but twice? Is this an acceptable practice somewhere in Canada that I’m not aware of? I know if I discovered someone up in my grill like that I’d probably want to key their bumper to show my gratitude. People these days.

SIDG: Punch Cops In The Face…and get away with it

This is now the second time this mail storage box has appeared in an installment of SIDG. Seems to be where people like to paste crazy posters and propaganda.

Apparently the appeal to joining the anarchist movement is to punch cops in the face. If you’re an anarchist, or feel like getting involved in the anarchy movement you can check out the website they mentioned, CrimethInc. I can’t say I sympathize with their cause too much, but they do definitely employ some awesome Graphic Designers for all their propaganda.

SIDG: Locked up unicycle

It’s been awhile since the last Seen In Downtown Guelph. This is the first time I’ve used the iPhone camera for anything practical. I didn’t see the person who was riding the unicycle or anything, but this to me just appeared odd. I can’t say I spent a lot of brainpower on this problem, but it never dawned on me that if in fact you needed to lock up your unicycle it makes the most sense to put it upside down. I’m assuming this guy was probably a street performer looking to make a few bucks downtown. That or he just really needed a pack of smokes and hopped on his unicycle to go downtown.

Update Sept 24/08: Turns out Urbacon got canned from the city hall project for taking way too long to complete. It was supposed to be done in February. It’s now September, so they missed their date by a little bit. You can read all the details on the Guelph Mercury site.

I wanted to start a regular feature on this site covering stuff I see in downtown Guelph on a regular basis. There are lots of weird and amusing things down there to use as source material. The first installment is a dumpster that was recently installed near the city hall redevelopment. I don’t think the guys who came up with the name for this company really thought it through before naming it URBACON. I’m sure the company really didn’t intend to tell the world that they are in fact a fatty, greasy, salty pork product. Or maybe they did, as part of some broad arcing socio-political statement under the guise of a corporation name.
