New SlideawayMedia site launched

SlideawayMedia screenshotLast Friday I launched a new version of my business site, SlideawayMedia. I hadn’t redesigned the site since 2006, so it was long overdue for an overhaul. Since the last concept was more of a portfolio site to show off my work I needed to revamp the concept to make it more of a site geared for generating me business instead of getting me a job.

Take a look and tell me what you think in the comments, I’d appreciate any feedback that you could offer.

New modsuperstar dot ca launches

It’s finally finished. I flipped the switch on my new design tonight after working on this design since roughly January. I’m all ported over to WordPress and hopefully everything will be running smoothly for everyone. It’s been roughly 2 years since my last redesign, so I’m very happy to have breathed some new life into things here.

Light blogging schedule lately

Hey all, just wanted to mention I’m working on the new design for the site. I’ve been putting off this re-design for ages because of one thing or another and have really wanted to focus on actually getting it done. I recently changed hosts from Dreamhost to Pinchhost, which was one of the things that I really needed to get done. And secondly I’m making the jump from using an old and busted install of Pivot to WordPress, which is wrought with peril. I’ve been testing and doing dry runs of things of the swap over for awhile now, so hopefully it’s not going to be too much of a pain in the ass. I’m really looking forward to getting this done, mainly because my current design is over 2 years old and really bores me. Plus WordPress is really going to offer me a world of flexibility that will really allow me to play with new plugins and features that would never be available to me with Pivot.

Moving and stuff

I wanted to address the lack of posts from me recently. Corina and I are preparing for our big move to Cambridge, which is now only 10 days away as Corina pointed out this morning. That has pretty much been the focal point of our lives recently and hasn’t left me a lot of time to blog. Once we get moved in and settled again I want to get back to my regular schedule. I’ve just found the last while I’ve been burning the candle at both ends, which has left me little inspiration to blog. I still love blogging and look forward to getting back into it, just consider this a moving related hiatus. I will still update the fresh links whenever possible though.

Thousand Island DressingAfter almost 4 years of blogging I’ve managed to hit a pretty big milestone with post lucky number 1000. So I’ve been on a pace of over 250 posts per year, which I think is pretty good for someone who doesn’t consider himself a prolific blogger. And funnily enough, after 1000 posts, I’m still not sure this blog knows what it wants to do when it grows up. All I know is that it’s been fun, frustrating and enjoyable at all different stops along the way. I just started this week working a full refresh of the design to the blog. It’s been about a year since this design launched, so I definitely think it’s time for a fresh look. I’m intending on making the big jump to the new Pivot 2.0 platform, which I have been mucking about with the last while.

I know I wouldn’t have had the motivation to make it to 1000 posts without all you readers, so I definitely appreciate those who have kept reading through the years. Those that haven’t can just bog off though. Just kidding.

RSS woes fixed

I posted awhile back about changes to my RSS feeds and was made aware of an issue that was occurring with the links back to the site. All the article title links were taking you to the wrong page. Well this has been sorted out and should be good from here on out. So if you’re a user of the RSS feed or were a user of the RSS feed, things should work a lot smoother now.

Reconfiguring RSS

I had recently been doing some thinking about how RSS is handled on the site. I currently have 2 feeds, one for the main content and one for the fresh links. While this does work, it doesn’t necessarily make sense to exclude the fresh links from the main feed. So as of today the main RSS feed will feature the fresh links entries. I typically update those more frequently then I do the main blog, so it only makes sense to include those in the main feed. For those who are subscribed to the fresh links feed, nothing will change.

Fresh Links Archive

I finally did something that was stupidly long overdue. I’ve created an archive for all the fresh links I post on my blog, which I even gave a nice URL located at http://www.modsuperstar.ca/freshlinks/. So if there was link you saw on the site and could never manage to find it again, now they are readily available instead of just disappearing into blog purgatory like they had previously been doing. If you’re into RSS there is also a devoted feed to these fresh links, so feel free to add it to your feeds.

Blog troubles

I’ve been having some issues with my blog lately. Until I get it sorted out posting might be a little light.

Been monkeying

As you might be able to tell, I’ve been mucking with my blog and the sidebar in particular. I recently read this article on Spring Cleaning Your Blog, so I finally took the initiative and made some changes that I’ve had bouncing around in my head for quite awhile now. That article inspired me to get rid of some of the pointless stuff that was there and make my blog a little leaner. I’m probably going to reformat the MyBlogLog box and that will be it for widgets. I also added some buttons for adding me as a friend on digg, last.fm and MyBlogLog, so feel free to add me if you’re a user of any of those sites.

I also made some cuts from the blogroll, so if you’ve been cut, start blogging again.
